Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSi - Fastest Indian Bike Ever

The new Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSi is faster than big guns like Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda. It does 0-60 kmph in a mean 3.8 seconds. If you floor it, it hits a mind blowing 138.5 kmph. That is at least a second better than all other desi crotch rockets.

Performance biking just hit greater heights, while at the same time becoming more affordable, thanks to the launch of the revised new Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSi. Take note of the term DTSi here, and not DTS-Fl. The Pune-based bike maker, who has made useable performance its commercial mantra, has pulled a smart one out of the bag and stunned rivals Yamaha and Honda to deliver a machine which is the quickest accelerating bike in the country with the highest top speed.

And just when one thought that the brilliant tech-laden but sharply focused for the track and highly priced Yamaha YZF R15 had taken away the Pulsar's leadership. mantle, the Joseph Abraham led Stars Ahead team (as the Bajaj Auto R&D is known as) has come up with a motorcycle that is not brand new, but completely reworked to turn the tables over one of the world's greatest performance names in motorcycling. Visually there might not be any major difference between this 220 and the earlier fuel injected version, but mechanically and structurally, this is an all new hot roller with a potency to singe and burn the competition.

Hydrogen cars for UK's GenNext

One more car - named Hydrogen car supposed to say that it is a UK's next generation car. But they would not be able to buy them as the makers intend to let them out on lease.

A non-toxic car powered by a fuel cell that combines hydrogen with oxygen from the air to release energy was unveiled in London reports at newscientist.com.

Riversimple's RUC is aiming to lease its first fleet in 2011 and mass produce in 2013. The lack of fuelling infrastructure aside, the three main problems with building a hydrogen car are that fuel cells contain expensive platinum, are difficult to make powerful enough to power a conventional vehicle, and the hydrogen they use is hard to store in large quantities. But Riversimple founder Hugo Spowers said, "If your car is light and efficient enough, the hurdles are lowered."

The RUC weighs 350 kilograms and uses a cheaper 6 kw fuel cell, he says. The fuel payload need not be huge, either: just 1 kg (S2 lb) of liquid hydrogen (26 litres at normal pressure) is enough to take the car 300 kilometres. The car's top speed is 50 miles per hour, and it can accelerate from 0 to 30 mph (48 km/h) in 5.5 secon, Is. Even using hydrogen derived from natural gas, its well-to-wheel carbon emissions for urban driving are only 30 gms/km.

The car would not be on public sale, but will be leased. "That means we are driven to encourage people to keep them for as long as possible than replacing their vehicle quickiTy, as is usual in the car business," Spowers said.

He hopes to lease the first fleet in 2011, in a small UK city. The leasing cost is predicted to be around £200 (Rs 15,630) a month.

Indica vista diesel: 1248 cc, 74 BHP, torque 19.3Nm, mileage assumed at 15 kmpl, ex-showroom 5.0 lac

Considering the cost of diesel at Rs 35 per liter and Petrol at current rate of 46 Rs per Liter, the analysis of money that can be saved with diesel car can be calculated as below.

Suppose you drive 50,000 KM per year.

The cost of fuel per 50000 KM, i.e. 3333.33 liter of fuel for petrol at 15 KMPL, will be Rs 1,53,333. For that of diesel, it will be Rs 1,16,666. The saving for diesel car will hence be Rs 36,667.

In other words, with this usage, the extra cost of Rs 1,00,000 of diesel car would be earned back within about 3 years. As most people will keep the car for longer, in this usage it would make sense to go for the diesel car.

In fact, the saving could go up as the general mileage of diesel car might be at around 19KMPL on an average which would amount to 92105 Rs with saving 61228 Rs. I just used simplified figures here.
