A new Spark on Beat-concept by end-2009 from General Motors

General Motors India is ready to bring a new Spark in India based on the Beat concept. The company has recently unveiled this model at the 2009 Detroit Motor Show and now intends to launch the model globally. This means India will have the all new Spark by end of this year.

It is important to note that this new car will not replace the existing Spark model currently being produced from the company’s Talegaon unit in Maharashtra. The new Spark is expected to be priced around Rs. 4.5-5 lakhs. 10 percent of the overall production will be marked for exports. The company intends to market the car in neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan where it has all the Indian product portfolio models except Tavera.

GM is believed to have invested US$ 50-60 million (Rs. 200-250 crore) in tooling and equipment for the model and will manufacture the car at its newly-built Talegaon unit. The company will use the Talegaon plant as an export base for countries in the Asia-Pacific region and Europe.

Expansion of Pre-Owned Cars Business - General Motors

General Motors India intends to increase its used-car business five fold in India by the end of this year. It owns 11 Chevrolet-OK as its pre-owned car retail outlets and intends to increase the strength of these outlets to up to at least 50. It also has 203 dealers in India which it intends to increase up to 250 by the end of this year. At present, there are 203 outlets of General Motors across the country. Further it get to be expand by more 250 outlets by the end of this financial year.

General Motors extending the same 3-year/one lakh km warranty to used-car owners as well. Though they have not set target for used-cars, but the sale of used cars should not be less than 40 per cent of the new car sales at an outlet. All the used cars at dealerships in India will undergo a history check as well as go through 110-point check list by GM India trained engineers.

The wholly owned Indian subsidiary of the American auto giant seems to be facing trouble in raising money to complete its engine plant in India. Its parent company has already filed bankruptcy in the US and is not much of help for its troubles. Earlier Reilly had stated that it faced problems in raising USD 200 million funds earmarked for its engine plant in Talegaon, Maharashtra. GM India also intends to increase its dealership network to rural and sem-urban Indian cities as well.

Grab Discount Offers in June from Car Manufacturers in India

June seems to be the season of heavy discounts for Indian car buyers. Auto manufacturers are offering varying discounts across all their models to lure the Indian customers. May-June this year beat the December discounts already. Car companies are offering discounts starting from Rs. 5000 to up to Rs. 1 lakh on their cars in India.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited is offering discounts on nearly all the cars in its product portfolio. It is offering discount of Rs. 13,000 on Omni and Maruti 800, 35,000 on WagonR, 19,000 on Alto, 37,000 on Zen Estilo and 25,000 on SX4. The new model Maruti A-Star is also cheaper by Rs. 24,000 this month. However, latest and popular models do not have such attractive discount packages. Maruti Swift is available at a discount of Rs. 5000 only and there is no discount on the latest model Maruti Ritz.

I know all you purchasers wonders that how it happens? But there is no any tact or magic. It is the decision of car manufacturers that hefty price discounts on one particular car model can help give focus on that model and increase sales for a brief period of time. So, I think it is a good time to buy your beloved car at home.

Other auto makers are also offering discounts ranging from Rs. 10,000 to up to one lakh on their cars. General Motors, Ford India and Tata Motors have their cars lined up with various discounts across their product portfolio. Hyundai is already offering an exchange program to its customers to upgrade their cars to a bigger car without changing the EMI. “Monsoon always sees some discounting but this time the cuts are steeper,” said Rajiv Dube, president-passenger car division, Tata Motors.

So even before the monsoon in India, its already raining discounts in the auto sector. With additional excise duty cut benefits, cars couldn’t have been cheaper before.
