Ashok Vichare : The First Nano Owner

Just look at the picture and the person sitting at the driving wheel. Yeah! His name is Mr. Ashok Vichare. Ratan Tata signed the name of Ashok Vichare in the history of automobile industry as he became the first proud owner of the world’s cheapest car – Tata Nano.

Ratan Tata, the Chairman of the $62.5 billion Tata Group, who had promised to deliver the "people's car" at just Rs 100,000 ($2,500) at factory gates, himself handed over the car keys to Ashok Vichare. Ashok Raghunath Vichare booked Tata Nano earlier this year in April and was one of the few selected lucky customers whose name appeared on the allotment list. He became the proud owner of a gleaming silver-coloured Nano today.

Vichare decided to drive the car first to the Siddhi Vinayak Temple in Mumbai which is the city's iconic and famous temple. Vichare’s family had accompanied him to the showroom and attended the ceremony along with Vichare. They drove off on Mumbai streets and headed towards the temple.

The second owner of Tata Nano was Ashish Balakrishnan, but his dream turned out to be a nightmare as he lost his keys soon after Ratan Tata handed over the set of keys to him. Tata Motors will give new duplicate keys to Balakrishnan on Saturday and his cousin will drive off the car.

New Development : Maruti Alto CNG Kit

Maruti Suzuki introduced the CNG kit for its small car Alto. The kit is priced at Rs. 43,545 and will be available across all variants of the brand from July 17 onwards. However, these kits will be currently available only in Delhi and NCR region. The retrofitted CNG Altos would come with a 12-kg tank, which would accommodate 7-7.5 kg of Compressed Natural Gas.

Alto has emerged as the most preferred car in India for its driveability, superior mileage, low ownership cost and overall reliability. Maruti are confident that the Alto with a CNG option makes this car even more attractive for customers.

Maruti Suzuki has already stopped working on the LPG variants as it plans to roll out only CNG kits from 2010. It intends to rolls out its entire range of CNG cars first of which will be Alto.

Now Think about Bajaj Pulsar 220 Instead of Bajaj Pulsar 200

Bajaj Auto has decided to phase out is model Pulsar 200 which will now be replaced by Pulsar 220. The new model was launched three weeks earlier which was the refurbished model of Pulsar launched in December 2006. The new pulsar is pitted against Yamaha FZ16, Fazer and R15, Hero Honda’s Karizma, TVS Apache 180 and the Honda CBF Stunner PGM-FI. However, in order to compete competitively in its segment, the company has slashed the prices by nearly Rs. 15,000 and the upgraded and better model is available at Rs. 70,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The carburettored version of the new Pulsar 220, which has been launched, offers higher power and better performance at a much lesser price. So, continuing with the Pulsar 200 was not possible, as it was priced in the similar range. We wanted to offer the buyers a better bike at an affordable rate.

Pulsar 200 is still available in some showrooms across India but it will no longer be supplied from the company. These models are available at their original prices without any discounts. Currently, Bajaj portfolio included three models of the bike – Pulsar 150, Pulsar 180 and Pulsar 220.
